Can you take out Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are removable, making them a convenient treatment.
If you would like a straighter smile, there are a number of orthodontic options available to you. For individuals who value convenience, Invisalign is often a very effective choice. Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, drinking and cleaning and don’t require any dietary changes. Read on to find out more about Invisalign and if it’s right for your lifestyle…
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign involves the use of clear aligners, which are made from medical-grade plastic. The aligners work by applying pressure to the teeth and gradually moving the teeth into new positions. To ensure that your aligners fit comfortably, impressions of your teeth are made — this means that each aligner is custom-made for the individual. You will need to change your aligners every two weeks or so depending on the extent of your treatment. In most cases, Invisalign treatment takes between 12 and 18 months to achieve the desired results, but this does vary from person to person. Invisalign can be used to resolve a number of issues, including gaps between the teeth, crowded teeth, underbite, overbite, crossbite, and open bite.
Can Invisalign be removed?
One of the advantages of Invisalign is that your aligners can be taken out for eating, drinking and cleaning. When it’s time to enjoy a meal or snack, you simply need to take out your aligner tray — there is no need to avoid certain foods or drinks for the course of your orthodontic treatment. We recommend that you brush your teeth before putting your aligners back in your mouth to prevent a build-up of food debris between your teeth and aligners.
You can also remove your aligners for cleaning. In fact, it is important that you clean your aligners regularly as this will help to maintain your oral health throughout your treatment. In order to clean your Invisalign aligners, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush them gently. Rinse them with lukewarm water before placing them back in your mouth. Make sure that you don’t rinse or soak your aligners in hot water as this can cause permanent damage. It’s also a good idea to soak your aligners in a specially formulated cleanser from time to time to ensure that they stay hygienic.
While Invisalign can be taken out, we do recommend that you wear them for around 22 hours every day. This will ensure that your treatment goes according to plan and that you enjoy good results in the expected time frame.
